The Myth Makers: Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein

bamboo, zip ties, reflectors, spray paint, oil cloth
This 20-foot blue jay is a collaboration between well-known sculptors Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein, known as The Myth Makers.
According to folklore tradition, the Blue Jay is symbolic of clarity of thought and taking action. This sculpture is a call to heed the warning signs of climate change and its effects. It reflects a hope that humans can unite to make changes needed to adapt and survive, like the Blue Jay does.
Though monumental in scale, this sculpture is temporary in nature. Made from natural materials, it is site-specific and responds to the local climate conditions. Meant to last about five years, it will fade and disappear over time.
