An Evening with Wen-hao Tien: Laundry Rocks
Between Fieldwork and Studio

October 1 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join interdisciplinary artist Wen-hao Tien for an evening exploring Laundry Rocks, her ongoing body of work originally inspired by the overlooked histories of Chinese immigrant laundry workers in the United States during her artist in residency at the Pao Arts Center in 2020. Tien transforms the humble shirt into a vessel for stories of labor, dignity, and resistance.
Tien will also share how her practice moves between fieldwork and the studio—beginning with observation, research and encounters, and developing through experimentation with materials and form. Her work often connects personal stories with broader histories and social questions, inviting audiences to look again at things that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Taiwan-born and U.S.-based, Tien is an artist, educator and curator. She is a member of Boston Sculptors Gallery. Her work has been exhibited widely in the United States and featured in art publications and independent films. Her project Weed Out is included in Crossing Boundaries and Confounding Identity: Chinese Women in Literature, Art, and Film(SUNY Press, 2023).

The evening will start with a reception from 5-6pm followed by an artist talk at and conversation with the audience at 6pm.
