Gallery Talk: Jackie Reeves

Tea Ceremony

The Art Complex Museum invites you to a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. A ritual practice of preparing and drinking tea, the Japanese tea ceremony is a symbol of Japanese formality and spiritual aestheticism. Traditionally, it would be practiced in a specialized space called a tea house, designed specifically for tea ceremony gatherings. The Art Complex Museum’s tea house is called, Sho-fu-an or “Wind in the Pines.” Fee: FREE Registration: Registration is not required. All are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis.

Drum Circle with Ed Sorrentino

A rhythm session facilitated by local percussionist Ed Sorrentino, Percussion Department Chair at the South Short Conservatory. Frequently called "in-the-moment music-making," drum circle participants sit in a circle on the ground and play drums and/or hand percussion instruments. Participants engage together to create a group rhythm and cooperate in rhythm games. Sessions will be held outdoors, weather permitting. If the weather is not cooperating, sessions will be held indoors, in the Phoenix Gallery. Fee: FREE 12 participants maximum. Registration required.…

Concert: Mark Valenti, Piano

Mark Valenti received his Master of Music from Northwestern University, Bachelor of Music from the Philadelphia Musical Academy, and has studied with such notable teachers as Benjamin Whitten, Zoltan Kocsis and Mary Sauer. In addition to giving solo recitals in cities throughout the U.S., Mr. Valenti has performed in France, Belgium, Hungary, and Luxembourg as well as for former First Lady Barbara Bush in Washington, D.C. Concert: Shtrykov-Tanaka Duo, Piano and Clarinet

Comprised of clarinetist Maksim Shtrykov  and pianist Misuzu Tanaka, the Shtrykov-Tanaka Duo can be heard throughout the U.S. Clarinet and piano duos are still rare gems on the modern concert stage despite the immense repertoire. Concert: Zefira Trio, Violin, Cello, Piano

The idea for the Zefira Trio grew out of striking and instinctive rapport between pianist Eleanor Perrone and cellist Ashima Scripp, a rapport enhanced by the addition of violinist Olga Patramanska-Bell.
