Students will make a New England Apple Basket, which is a round-bottomed splint style basket that is woven continuously. Students will learn to set up the radial base with rattan spokes and weave with natural rattan weavers to create the base. The basket is approximately 10” in diameter and the side weaving can include a pattern of dyed weavers or be woven in all natural material. Shaping the basket will be taught. The basket is completed with a handle, rims and lashing. A second basket will be taught, if time allows.
Basket measures 10” diameter x 6.5” deep and is suitable for students of all levels.
Tools for students to bring to class: a bucket or dishpan, small towel, pencil, clip clothespins, an awl or knitting needle, scissors and/or diagonal cutting pliers.
