10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Using “The Secret Lives of Chairs” pop-up show as a starting point, this two-hour workshop is an opportunity to share your own real or imagined chair stories. Be a selective editor and bring photos, drawings, rumors, poems, fabric samples–even a chair!–to the workshop with you. This support material will help you reveal the past lives or your imagined futures for the chairs you love or miss or want.
Come celebrate the chair, bring a story, and we will make a little art. Often, the chair we love says, “Glad you are home.”
Bring your lunch if you want to.
Instructor: Mary Coogan

Mary Coogan, Psy.D., is a South Shore artist and psychotherapist working primarily in the Jungian depth tradition, with an emphasis on the alchemy of transitions. Her design of the “Ultima Thule,” an exploratory studio project for client healing, is used as a clinical tool by creative arts therapists in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and grief work.
Dr. Coogan has presented workshops on the East and West coasts to both train therapists in the use of the “Ultima Thule” and to do outreach in artist communities with an emphasis on creativity blocks.
As a visual artist, Mary Coogan’s work focuses on the very human and universal attachment to transitional objects and the specific power of memory to endow meaning. Her work is included in both private and public collections.
