Painters & Poets Exhibit

May 18 – September 1, 2024

An exhibit of poetry written in response to paintings in the exhibit, Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?, by the National Association of Women Artists Massachusetts Chapter. The poems have been written by members of the Duxbury Poetry Circle.

Kick-off Event

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, the Painters & Poets exhibit opened with a poetry-filled afternoon. Guest speakers included Miriam O’Neal, Poet Laureate of Plymouth, MA, and Sam Correia, Project Director of the South Shore LGBTQ Oral History Archive.

O’Neal’s talk, The History of Ekphrastic Poetry, led visitors through artworks from the past to the present, highlighting poetics works that drew inspiration the art.

Correia’s talk, Poets of Provincetown: Past, Present, and the Legacy of Mary Oliver spoke of a number of famous poets that have enjoyed the special place that is Provincetown, MA, including beloved poet, Mary Oliver.

We capped off the afternoon with readings by the Duxbury Poetry Circle, with poets reading their original poetry inspired by the exhibit, Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?
